Lamps in the 18 and 19 century, The most used mining lamp was the FROG, mostly attached to a leather helmet or soft hat, so it had to be lightweight.
Carbide lamps provides an especially bright light. The gas, fuelling the lamp, is produced by bringing water and calcium carbide in contact. Since the beginning of this century such lamps were widely used in non gassy deep mines.
Mine Safety Lamps became most popular around 1935, particularly in the bituminous coal mines. Equipped with magnetic lock and vertical flint stone ignition, these are original lamps, no reproductions, professionally made, hand polished housings. Only limited availability.
